Happy Birthday, Bapa!

On September 14, the kids and I went up to Hot Springs Village to visit Gram and Bapa. Bapa was turning the big SIX OH, so we needed to be there.

Kayleigh had a blast hanging out with her Bapa. She definitely has his number...

Logan enjoys playing the guitar with Bapa - Logan was very serious about strumming the "tar". He only lost the pick a few times...

One day, we went out on Bapa's bass boat. It's a little different than our deeper V boat, but it was fun. It goes, as Logan would say, "faster, faster". Kayleigh had "troll hair" due to the wind.

Logan got to drive the boat. He sort of went in circles. But Bapa was there to keep us from running aground.

Here we all are! Bapa, Logan, Mommy, and Kayleigh. And somehow, we talked Gram into taking us to the Shack (a hamburger joint) after boating. Yay!

Another day, we went to Garvan Gardens. They have a new children's section. I don't know what I was expecting, but it was all rocks and streams. So, Logan jumped in, and Kayleigh was not sure what she wanted to do. But she eventually got in, though she was not a fan of the muddy bottom.

Good thing we had a change of clothes for this wet one! He had such fun once we walked it a few times. He threw rocks and sticks and tromped around. When he was walking on the rocks, he'd say over and over again, "I gotta be careful, right Mommy? I gotta be careful." Don't know if he was trying to make me more comfortable, or to remind himself!

No birthday is complete without a birthday present. This was our present to Bapa - a faux-Underarmor shirt (funderarmor?) with the kids footprints on it. Apparently, he really likes it!

We went to the Shack again with Mr. Wayne and Ms. Delma on Bapa's actual birthday. Then we came home and had Tennessee Chocolate Sheet Cake, Bapa's cake every year. Logan and Kayleigh "helped" blow out the candle. Logan basically spit on the piece of cake, but whatever. Then, in true Logan form, he had to have a candle for his cake. Didn't care if anyone sang to him, but he's a little bit of a pyro.

Logan and Gram read "I am a Bunny" many times. But after only about 2 times of reading it, Logan could recite some of it back to Gram. By the time we left, he could almost "read" the whole thing by himself! His memory is amazing (as evidenced by the fact that he can remember his Bible verse after 2 times of hearing it - it's said I - - trustinyourWord. Psalm 119:42!).

We had a great time with Gram and Bapa, and Logan was sad when they didn't get on the plane with us.

But it's all good, Gram came down a few days later to watch the kids while I went to a scrapbooking retreat in Central Texas. Fun - plus, I got to see my BIG brother before he deploys to Afghanistan. So that was a real treat. Good timing of the deploying and the retreat - God really works things out.

The Painting Pair

The twosome sharing an easel. Painting friends.

Whoa! Look at those hands, and face, and tummy. Straight into the bathtub with you!

Visiting Daddy's work

Saturday, September 11, Logan, Kayleigh, and I went to Daddy's work to see the planes. We were in luck! There were three of them in the hangar.

Here is Logan in the cockpit of one of the planes.

Logan looks out the windows.

Just before we left to go home, the kids got to sit on one of the tugs - connected to a plane at the time. How amazing to be around these planes!

Fire Engine at the library

There wasn't a fire at the library this past Friday (Sept 3), but there was a fire engine and an ambulance. Very neat! We didn't get there in time to get tickets to the reading time, but we did have a good time touring the engine.

Here are Logan and Kayleigh with our friend Evie Mayer.

Wow, Kayleigh, the fire engine tire is bigger than you!

Chief Logan - he did not want to get down from his perch up here. He would have "driven" the fire engine all day if allowed.

My little mechanic also tried to pull or turn every valve on the pump controls. I think they must use a special tool to move them. But he tried his hardest to turn them all.

Hannah Mayer poses with the paramedics.

The library is right across from a park - so after a few minutes of wandering around the fire engine, Logan was ready to go down the dragon slide! So we hoofed it over there to play for a little while.

Kayleigh went down the slide, too. Her bottom got a little wet in the puddle at the end of the slide.

We had a good time seeing the fire engine - and it was also neat hearing it wail past us as it headed for "its house".

Bad habits

Logan must have picked up some bad habits from watching Shane and me drive (Shane would say, "No, just you.") Here he is, with his sister in the truck, driving around our cul-de-sac, popsicle in hand (and mouth). Next he'll be on the phone, eating a popsicle, and shifting (take that Shane Flachman! Good thing we don't have a manual transmission anymore!).
