Ribbons!
"The Red-heads" came over to our house today after church while their mom and dad went out on a date (Kayleigh kept telling Evelyn "your mommy and daddy are on a date, right?" Gotta love two year olds!). Anyway, I put Kayleigh and Evelyn down for a nap in Kayleigh's room. Shane went to check on them a few minutes later, and they were playing with the lights on. In the process of playing, Kayleigh decided to crawl under her bed which has exposed springs. This is what happened.

The 23rd Annual Gator Ride
Saturday, March 3 was the 23rd annual Gator Ride. This is the second one I've coordinated - and it is a good time. Kinda like planning a wedding...a lot of stress up until the moment of, but during, it's a lot of fun - and ultimately, there's nothing you can do about it now.
I had been praying for months that we would have good weather after the disaster of last year. You can't tell me that God doesn't have a sense of humor because when I woke up at 3:30am, it started raining. I thought, "Really?" It was still raining as I got in the truck at 4:30. But as I drove to I-45, a mile from the house, it stopped raining. I started giggling, because that's just hilarious! We had no rain at the ride, though it was cloudy (nice for biking), but super windy (not so nice for biking).
Here are the real troupers - the 63 mile bike ride started at 7:30am. Some of them made the decision to do the 42 miles after fighting the headwind for most of the way. Of course, on the way back it would have been a tailwind.
Apparently, we had one guy breakdown on the Fred Hartman bridge (broke a spoke), and his wife went on without him. Ah, wuv, twu wuv...
Net Com commander and race day MC, Gary Gill, mugs with Mrs Houston Cynthia McGraff and Baytown Mayor Steve Don Carlos. Good thing Judy wasn't there to see this! Nah, Gary's safe for a while - Judy just had rotator cuff surgery.
One of our family ride riders. There was a mom and her three boys that rode the 6.2 mile as well - she had one in a bike seat in front of her, one on a trailer bike (a seat with a wheel that attaches to an adult bike under the seat), and one on his own little bike.
I don't know what the deal is with this guy - was he taping his ride??
We had great police and constable support - three different precincts and two PDs.
The high school kids were out early (amazing!) helping park all the riders.
Coke even donated drinks and a trailer for the ride. Awesome! Nice that the Y director is a former Coke salesman.
Some of the many people we couldn't have done with out (clockwise from upper left) - Mr Lee (the 78 yr old SAG wagon driver), Lee Brillhart (YMCA director), Florence Trejo (YMCA person that does everything!), Rene, Kenny Smith, Kiki, Daniel Christie (Lee College facilities dude), and Juanell Leach.
So crazy, we even had a guy on a unicycle! That was pretty amazing!
It was a great ride, and, that I heard, we received only good comments. This was a great year, and I'm hoping that I can do it again next year - I really enjoy the people I work with.

Angleton Rec Center
Monday, February 27 (Gram's birthday!), we went to Angleton Rec Center. Angleton is about 45 minutes from our house, but the Rec Center has a nice pool with a slide. The water was shallow enough that the kids could have a really good time splashing, walking, and practicing their swimming.
The kids were so excited to get to go swimming that they'd been talking about it all day - and that was the first thing Kayleigh said when she woke up, "We going swimmin' now?" We all had a blast - they even had an adult slide with lots of switchbacks. Really fun!
We did have a bit of a scare - Shane and I were over by the stairs of the slide as the kids went down. Kayleigh went down the slide and couldn't seem to get her feet under her. The lifeguard ran over to her and dragged her out. Thank God for lifeguards!! After crying on my shoulder for 5 seconds, KayKay was ready to go back down that slide! That's my waterbaby!

On the way home, the kids kept EATING! They really worked up an appetite! We'll have to go back - they slept well that night...but then, so did we...
