Yay! with your hands!

The other day, I was sitting on the bar stool next to the pool playing lifeguard for Kayleigh. She was jumping off the bottom step and going underwater then pulling herself back on to the ladder. Pretty daring for her. So every time she'd get her whole head underwater and come back up, I would clap my hands and say, "Yay, Kayleigh!"

One time, she hardly got her face wet, so I didn't "Yay, Kayleigh!" her.

She looked at me and said sternly, "Mommy, say 'Yay!'"

So I said, "Yay!"

"No, Mommy, say 'Yay!' with your hands!"

Our pool visitor

We had a visitor in our pool the other day. This little lizard got marooned on our alligator kickboard. I have no idea how long it had been floating around in the pool before it was "rescued" by the kids. However, once he got out of the pool, there was no catching him - those little guys are FAST!

Building all by himself

This is the first BIG train track Logan has built by himself. And I really don't think he was thinking about it, he just started building, and it got bigger and bigger and finally connected. He did a great job!

Happy Mother's Day!

This is a little late, but I finally took pictures of my Mother's Day gifts. You decide, does it look more like Mother's Day or Father's Day?

My new grill. We've been using it several times a week. It's nice not to have to squat down, like I did over our old one (it was a Coleman camping grill).

My new lawnmower. So much easier to take the bag off (I bag when I mow), and it is back wheel self-propelled.

On the boat

Today, we went out on the boat for the first time this year. We were able to get out on the water before 9am (thanks to some kids who woke up before 6am), and we stayed out until just before noon.

Logan had so much fun in the water that he even braved going out on the wakeskate with Daddy. More than once even - like four times! Here are the two boys out on the wakeskate (Hope came out with us in the evening to hang out and take pictures - I was driving, so no shutterbugging for me.) Note: a wakeskate is a cross between a wakeboard and a skateboard; it has no bindings, but is as big as a wakeboard.

Above, Logan has his elbows on Shane's knees, which I just think is funny. Armrests while you wakeskate. Below, you can see that Logan was having a great time!

Shane rigged up the second handle for Logan, so Daddy didn't have to hold the handle down low for the little man to hold on to. The last time they went on, Logan said, "Daddy, let's let go." On the count of three they let go together.

My wakeskating pair!

We then parked the boat to let the kids swim a little bit. After jumping off the boat holding Daddy's hand, Logan could not get enough of jumping off the swim platform and swimming back to ladder. Doesn't this just look like summer!?

Logan swims back to the ladder - face in the water.

When Kayleigh saw Logan jumping off the swim platform, she wanted to try to jump and swim.

"Daddy! Daddy! Ho' my han'! Two, free!" *jump* Or sometimes, "Two, free, four!" *jump*

Hope hangs out on the boat. She'd forgotten how relaxing it is to be out on the water. But I think she had a great time hanging out and watching the kids play around.

Kayleigh swam over to the beach, but couldn't get back (her lifevest flips her over), so Logan swam over, held her hand and helped her swim back to the boat. What a sweet brother!

Think we'll be going out on the boat a lot this year, since the kids are loving the water.

My garden

My garden is growing out of it's sides - literally! But I guess that's what happens when you have cucumbers... Here are some pictures of the growing monsters!

At the corner is the pumpkin that Logan and Grandma planted in March. We have several buds on it, so maybe we'll actually get some pumpkins! If the heat doesn't kill them...

The roses - knockouts, Mr Lincolns, a yellow variety, and a tea rose. The two on the end we transplanted earlier this year, and they are actually looking good. I think they'll do better with more sunlight. The red rose was blocking both of them.

Tomatoes on the left and cucumbers on the right. These are the "bush" cucumbers. HA! I laugh at you! These are vines, my friends, VINES! Good luck weedeating and mowing around these suckers. Had to prop them up to get around them!

Tomatoes, tomatoes, and more tomatoes. And the big bushy ones (that are over 4' tall) are cherry tomatoes. Interesting - they grow in bunches of 6.

Some of our first harvest. Well, we've had tomatoes before, but here are some we picked for dinner. And some rather nice sized green peppers - like almost store sized! It was all YUM!

Thank you, God for yummy vegetables, and a beautiful garden this year! We are enjoying it!

Somersaults

Logan is a fish. He loves to go in the pool, and once in will stay in for hours. Good thing it's in our backyard! He recently taught himself how to do somersaults in the pool. He loves doing them, and doesn't get very disoriented.

Bottoms up! Here he goes over...

His feet kick the surface.

And he pushes himself up!

He's also been kicking across the pool without touching. But we need to work on the arms. He can do the arms - just without the kicking. Maybe we need to get him a pool buoy to put between his legs. He's going to do great at swim lessons this year!

Dry Pull-ups

This morning, Logan had something exciting to tell Daddy - so he called Daddy at work to tell him.

"The teetee stayed in my penis longer and longer. Now my Pull-Ups are dry!"

Indiana Trip

On May 21, Grandma came to our house for a quick "fly through" visit. As we were going to pick up Grandma from the airport, Logan asked if he could go to her house. Shane looked at me and said, "Fine with me if she's okay with it". So, making not such a long story even shorter, the next morning, he was holding Grandma's hand walking into Hobby airport, rolling his wheelie tiger suitcase behind him. I think I was more upset about him leaving - first time he's left home without me!

Kayleigh had a great time being an only child for a couple days. She loved all the attention she got from us, especially Daddy. On Tuesday, May 24, Kayleigh and I started our journey to Indiana to pick Logan up. Due to flights, antsy kids, and dinner, it took us 19 hours, door-to-door. And Kayleigh was a trouper! We were on a flight with a bunch of pilots from Kansas City to Midway (little convention that weekend in Chicago). One of the pilots turned around after the flight and said that she was "so good!" Amazing, since that was the one flight I was about ready to blister her bottom on... "You have to wear your seatbelt. You have to be safe." "I don't wanna be safe!" Slides out of her seatbelt. Erg!

Finally, we got to Grandma and Grandpops' house. The next day, we planned to go to Indiana Beach - an amusement park (not an actual beach). However, they were closed when we got there. Apparently, staying open after the ferris wheel got struck by lightning and the tornado warnings were issued is not considered a safe business practice! Didn't they know we'd come all they way from Texas??

Anyway, we ate our McDonald's take out at the picnic area in front of Indiana Beach. There were lots of birds to chase and huge puddles to splash in. This is why you always have a change of clothes...
Wet from the mid-torso down. Fabulous, because I only brought one pair of shoes (not so smart!).

Keegan and Logan had on their Indiana Beach shirts (so did Grandma - triplets!). Matching in so many ways - like being completely soaked! But they had a great time getting wet - running like crazy men through those huge puddles.

There are other fun things to do in Indiana though. Like cuddle with Grandpops in his big comfy chair. The kids had such fun lopping on him!

Another fun thing to do in Indiana - eat Indiana sweet corn (YUM!). Although it seems that SOME people enjoy eating the butter more than the actual corn.

Even another, only in Indiana thing (or maybe an only at Grandma and Grandpops' house thing), Kayleigh got to lick the gallon of ice cream before it was dished up. Thank goodness I had my own pint!

Since we couldn't go to Indiana Beach, we went to Chuck E. Cheese instead! For the Little Flachman kids, it was a first. And they loved it. Sit down and eat pizza, HA! I don't know why we even bought any, since it seemed the adults just crammed it down so they could bounce back to hand out tokens.

Logan loved this game - feed the frog ping pong balls.

Pretending to be NASCAR drivers. The kids loved this one, even though they weren't really playing.

They played several games together. They even asked on a few games if they could play them with each other.

And Kayleigh's favorite part of the day - feeding the Ticket Muncher. She thought it was hysterical that the machine would eat your tickets. She was laughing, squealing, and clapping her hands!

The kids and I planned to get on a late flight Friday night out of Indy. So, Grandma and I decided to take the kids to the zoo instead of making a long drive with no break. Heehee, we were those people you look at and say, "man, I'm glad those aren't my kids!" The three of them rotated who would cry. Although occasionally, all three would be in chorus. I'm sure we were birth control - never have a 2, 3, and 4 year old! Have triplets - they're at the same developmental stage!

In a quiet moment at the polar bear. We don't have polar bears in Houston (ya think? They'd melt here!).

The kids loved petting the dog sharks, or as Logan later called them, "puppy sharks". All of us got to touch them - pretty neat!

Keegan leading the way - and leading Logan.

We did end up catching that flight at 7:30pm out of Indy - we were the last ones on (thank goodness they saved us a row of seats in the back). The kids were so tired, they slept most of the flight. When it landed in Denver, I had to wake Logan up. He cried on the plane, as we walked down the jetway, up to the monitors, up to the desk to list for the next flight to HOU, as I changed him into his PJs, and then as we stood in line for the Houston flight. The other passengers were glad to see us! After we got on the plane, he whimpered for a while then sacked out. Kayleigh, on the other hand, ate a couple bags of peanuts, some pretzels, colored, spilled water, and had a great time on the Denver to Houston leg. She fell asleep about 30 minutes before we landed. A sweet woman helped me by carrying Kayleigh until Shane could take her. Thank you, God!

Anyway, it was really a great trip - I had fun staying up late, chatting with Monica and Barb. It is such a blessing to have in-laws you actually LIKE. Seriously, it was a blast! I'm so glad we went - thanks for the good idea, Logan. And thanks Hilemans for letting us crash!
