For renewing our Zoo membership, we were give four free Sunday tickets to the Renaissance Festival. Generally, Shane works a double (16 hours straight - 2 shifts) on Sunday, so we weren't able to go until the Sunday after Thanksgiving, which is also the last day. We got there early, because we figured it would be crazy busy. Here are the peeps ready to go in.
The theme for the weekend was Celtic Christmas - so there were Christmas trees, Christmas music, and a few random Santas wandering around. I really loved the brass band playing Christmas music by the front gate. I love brass instruments, and Christmas music sounds so wonderful on them.
The kids really wanted to go on rides (and of course you have to pay out the nose to ride each time). This is sort of like a merry-go-round, but is attached to a center pole that it twists up and down. The kids had a great time, and didn't even loose their cookies!
The center pole with all the ropes holding up the merry-go-round and the kids!
Of course, we HAD to go on the dragon swings! These swings you pull on a rope to pull your side up, and the person opposite does the same. It's pretty neat the way it all works. Logan worked his hardest to pull - but it's hard when you're laughing to pull too hard!
Kayleigh helped Daddy pull. And Daddy needs all the help he can get!
Okay, so both kids were (barely) heavy enough to go on the bungees. These are large bungee cords attached to a harness on the kid and then attached to a pole about 20 ft in the air. There was a trampoline below them, but the bungees were so tight their feet never really touched the trampoline - the helpers would hang off the bungees, then let go, and just sling shot the kids up in the air.
Both kids LOVED it. Logan just went straight up in the air and giggled and grinned. It was fun to watch! He was so high!
Kayleigh was one big hairball - and by far the smallest kid out there. The cut off on the small side is 30 lbs, and K weighs 33. She was barely big enough. But she kicked booty on it! She jumped up, and then somehow figured out how to do a backflip. She wasn't proficient, but there aren't many 3 year olds out there that can bungee and turn flips!
Here she is doing her flip! Logan only did one, right at the end, but Kayleigh did several! And I think the guy who was helping her gave her a few extra minutes to do it. Pretty awesome. And pretty fearless.
Both kids got to go 3 times on the bungees before we ran out of money. Then we spent like 30 minutes watching people spin wool - Logan was fascinated by how the spinning wheels worked and by how soft the spun wool was. I think the people were amazed at how long he sat there asking questions and crawling around the spinning wheel to figure it out. I mean, how many 4 year old boys will be entertained by spinning for so long? I wasn't even entertained by it!
And of course, we ate our way through the festival. They had delicious potato chips and Shane said the fried cod was good. But everyone's favorite was the cinnamon pecans. Hands down the best. The cinnamon almonds were good, but the pecans were amazing. Next year, we'll get a large...
