On October 12, we took Grandma, Grandpops, Aunt Monica, Keegan, and Abby to the Showcase of Citrus. Well, actually this was Grandma's idea, and it was great! I'd wanted to pick some fruit, just because it's super fun. Logan hauls Kayleigh into the grove.
Look at that lemon! It's huge! I had to take this picture for our friend Hope, because she had lemons. Her lemons are the size of oranges - but these are bigger than Logan's feet!
Grapefruit on the trees. Don't let the green color fool you, they may still be ripe...it's all about the feel of the fruit. Who knew??
Grandpops waits around with two of his favorite little girls.
Logan hauls his booty back to the bags.
Really? These are ripe??
More citrus trees...
The monster bus! We got to ride this!
Look at the ruts the tires made! Amazing!
Just to give you an idea of how BIG the tires were - Shane is 5'10". It was pretty high off the ground!
The gang on the monster bus - Kayleigh (hanging like a monkey), Logan, Shane, Aunt Monica, Abby, Keegan.
Our bus driver/ tour guide, Josh. He was a funny good ol' boy.
The pile of "Zoo poo" - fertilizer they make from animal dung from Animal Kingdom and Medieval Knights, to name a few.
It's not everyday you get to see a Bobcat in the wild.
Some interested people - looking for alligators, I'm sure.
Sandhill cranes - these cranes mate for life and are usually found together.
Swampy waters are ahead!
The big tires got us through the water...
Kayleigh loved looking out, watching for alligators.
Mom and Pops enjoyed the ride too. There was a lot to see.
The alligator, affectionately known as T-Rex.
A banana spider - also common in the Houston area. Think I've seen one before, but didn't know what it was called.
Mommy and Kayleigh.
Kayleigh and Abby make their way to a little pond by the grove. Josh told us there were alligators in the pond - so we had to go see.
The baby alligators come up to say "hi".
And of course, Grandma found a four-wheeler, and she had to get on!
Look at all these oranges! Yummy!
The Showcase of Citrus was like a roadside stand on growth hormones! It was fun, and they are mostly organic, except this year, they decided that instead of weedeating the weeds near the trees, they'd use Round-up. So much for organic! Logan loved the monster bus ride - and wanted to go again! (Of course!) It really was a fun place!
